Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2007

It’s Christmas! And the end of a busy and often stressful year for the McLennan-Cruz family. There have been highs (Deborah’s wedding) and low’s (my fathers illness and Luis’ ongoing headaches) and the ongoing joy of living with a very active and independent 2 year old!
It is also the end of another season in our lives, and we will be moving on to new things next year.
Or should I say moving back- we will be returning to Palmerston North in February so that I can start work on a PhD in Development Studies. I have just been awarded a Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship scolarship which will cover living expenses, research costs and tuition for three years which is a relief and a challenge- the standard is very high just to get the scholarship and I have a lot of work to do now! While I am studying Luis will be completing his degree, and Maya will have her first introduction to education via an early childhood centre. The PhD research will (like my Masters research) be focused on Honduras so we hope to be returning there later in 2008 to start fieldwork as well as introdcing Maya to her family and culture there.
One of my New Years resolutions (should I make any!) will be to update these blogs more often. As I will be spending much more time in frount of a computer this might even happen! In the meantime we would like to wish you all peace, joy and generosity for this Christmas and the year to come.
